Snowflake’s Chief Technology Evangelist, Kent Graziano and Field Chief Technology Officer, Dmytri Yaroshenko on how Snowflake’s latest features will benefit the Data Vault community

The year 2020 will live long in the memory because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But for anyone working in the data management world, some of today’s innovations may well be eventually viewed by historians as marking a turning point in data sharing.

As we move towards 2021, Snowflake’s role in the world of big data and analytics is helping to drive the pace of change in businesses’ ability to share and make the most of their data in terms of maximising efficiency as well as revenues and profit.

Greater sharing of data can only accelerate the pace of change as the world tries to recover from the lasting damage caused by the crisis.

Kent Graziano, Snowflake’s Chief Technology Evangelist, and Field Chief Technology Officer Dmytri Yaroshenko joined the latest UK Data Vault Users Group’s webinar to update on progress being made with Snowflake’s product.

Just 24 hours after Snowlake’s Data Cloud Summit, Kentgave a fascinating presentation on how data sharing capabilities can transform the world economy after Dimitri gave an update on some of the technical changes in the US data firm’s software.

And with the latest economic forecasts predicting a COVID-19 hangover that will continue for up to two more years – in the UK at least – some glimmers of hope are to be welcomed.

Snowflake strongly believes it is uniquely positioned to unlock the value of data, and that new innovations create new opportunities.

The Data Cloud is powering a new wave of applications and companies across the world are achieving their business goals thanks to it.

It allows businesses to find new ways to:–

• Deliver new products and services to customers

• Improve supply chains and find innovative solutions to historical problems through better co-ordination

• Using data to help businesses collaborate globally.

Data’s evolution to the Cloud is creating new insights that are rapidly becoming a “game-changer” as businesses race towards a competitive advantage in the post-COVID 19 age with more pressure than ever on revenues and bottom-line performance in both mature markets, and the latest data-driven enterprises.

Kent explained how data sharing capabilities – thanks to Snowflake’s architecture – are possible by creating a single live copy of the data.

It requires no copying, no moving and as result has no delays – whether an organisation wishes to share directly with a partner, supplier or customer, or take part in a data exchange on a large scale, with many participants and many data sets.

The Snowflake Data Marketplace has already allowed more than 130 data providers to share and expand their data sets.

And all this can happen from just one single live copy of the data – with no ETL required, and no need for copying or moving the data, and consequently with no delays.

But the beauty is also that Snowflake gives it users the power to retain control over who can publish and consume the information, with workflow approval at all times.

The opportunities for governmental bodies and public authorities dealing with the challenges of the pandemic and its impact on healthcare systems are just one area where Snowflake’s Data Cloud is already having powerful consequences – and for the good of us all.
