Data Vault success? It starts with the business (model)!
We were delighted to have the author and Data Vault modelling guru, John Giles, join us from Australia for the UK Data Vault User Group’s first virtual Meetup. This session is now available to view on-line. The heart of John’s message was to explain why success with a Data Vault starts with the business and ends with the business. He offered a very entertaining and Australian flavour to warnings about the potential pitfalls in a Data Vault project. His approach is top-down and he warns about the perils of creating a source system Data Vault. He went on to talk about the importance of an enterprise ontology. John explains: What is an ontology? Why do I need it? Then, importantly, how do I create one? Finally, how do I apply it in a Data Vault context. John is an independent consultant, with a passion for seeing ideas taken to fruition. For 3 decades his focus has been on data modelling and architecture, with a more recent interest in Data Vault modelling. He is the author of two very accessible books on the subject “The Nimble Elephant: Agile Delivery of Data Models Using a Pattern-based Approach” and “The Elephant in the Fridge: Guided steps to Data Vault success through building business-centered models”. We hope you enjoy the video. The slides are available on the downloads page and John’s books are available on https://technicspub.com/fridge/ and https://technicspub.com/the-nimble-elephant/.
