Another successful UK Data Vault 2.0 User Group Meeting!

Our second UK Data Vault 2.0 User Group meeting was held on the 5th December not far from Holburn underground station in London. We were able to present an early version of a new Data Vault 2.0 Landscape diagram and attendees were treated to two interesting presentations on the subject of Data Vault 2.0.

Our first presenter, Simon Dimaline, Lead Technical Designer for Data Analytics at Sainsbury’s, gave an excellent presentation about the Data Vault Architecture currently in development that will deliver an important capability to underpin Sainsbury’s business strategy.

Simon explored how they have built their Data Vault Integration Architecture as part of a group-wide programme to reduce risk and democratise access to data using a new cloud-based data warehouse. His presentation included why they chose Data Vault, the use of Snowflake as the cloud database and interestingly some lesson learnt.

Neil Strange presented a “what’s it all about” introduction to Data Vault 2.0 during which he talked about some of the principles behind Data Vault 2.0, some of the design concepts and what to expect on a real project.

At the end of the meeting one participant said it had changed his understanding of the Data Vault method and its maturity. This precisely what the User Group is about: sharing knowledge and changing perceptions.

The slides are available at our website www.ukdatavaultusergroup.co.uk.

A big thanks to all who attended – in spite of the rain!

Our next meetings will include a special half day event in February, collaborating with WhereScape to give you some training on Data Vault in the context of the WhereScape data warehouse automation tool. Then in March we will have another evening event with networking over a beer. Consider joining our Meetup group https://www.meetup.com/UK-Data-Vault-User-Group/ to hear about future events.
