Our first meeting got off to a great start.

Dan Linstedt gave us an introduction to the benefits of the Data Vault 2.0 and why he defines it as “A System of Business Intelligence containing the necessary components needed to accomplish enterprise vision in Data Warehousing and Information Delivery.”

He gave us some background to how he started and the huge amount of work that has gone into creating Data Vault 2.0 as it stands today. The message was clear ‘rules’ he has created were created for a reason and have been tried and tested in challenging implementations. He shared some fascinating examples of projects undertaken using Data Vault, illustrating how widely applicable and scalable it is, even scaling up to multi-petabyte warehouses.

For the Q&A we had a great panel with Dan, Kent Graziano (Snowflake), Paul Watson-Gover (WhereScape) and chaired by Neil Strange of Datavault. The open forum led to discussion about the use of Data Lakes (ungoverned dumping grounds….) and how you process unstructured data such as pictures and video.

Kent Graziano, the Chief Evangelist from Snowflake, gave an in-depth case study of how Aptus Health used Data Vault with WhereScape for warehouse automation and Snowflake as underlying cloud database.

As Dan told me himself – he likes to be a bit provocative and opinionated as a speaker and to my mind that is great because it grabs the attention and opens the debate. That is something I think he certainly achieved. We will aim follow-up with future events that can provoke further debate, learning and real-world case studies.

A big thanks to all who attended!
